Code 38-55 Compressor Physical Malfunction

Code 38-14 will set when the VFD detects a loss of phase in one of the compressor windings. This can be caused by a loose compressor plug connection if it is an intermittent issue. 3 occurrences of code 38-14 in 1 hour will result in a 4 hour lockout and generate a code 38-55. Inspect the compressor plug harness for any damage and verify continuity between the VFD side and the compressor side of the harness. If the harness appears undamaged, check the compressor windings against the expected resistance on Table 5.
If compressor or compressor plug harness are damaged, replace them. Otherwise the VFD should be replaced.
